TREASURER’S REPORT: Becky read the report, Kristi moved to approve it, Patty seconded, report approved.
OLD BUSINESS: Convention: Sept. 11-13
- Ed has contacted Joe Houle regarding the Little Shell doing opening ceremony, Joe’s family will do it.
- A deposit ($500.00) has been sent to AAron Nordstrom to give presentation.
- Kathy Garza from NOAH, and the Texas School for the Blind, will be the lunch speaker. NOAH may assist her travel expenses, RRC will cover her food and room.
- Laurel Henry from Wyoming will give a presentation on safety and self-defense. She will need $100.00 or so for gas. RRC will cover her food and room.
- Montech will be there on Saturday, RRC will cover cost of table and registration.
- Shannon Payne from BLVS will give a presentation on ergonomics. BLVS will pay her way.
- Lessons Learned Panel: Chris, Laurel, Kristi and Phoenix will be on the panel. Kristi and Phoenix will switch off on asking questions. Ed, Phoenix and Kristi will devise the questions for the panel.
- O&M’s: Angela Tabb (possibly Chris) will teach about canes. We hope to have several O&M’s there.
- A possible tour of the Ursuline Center was discussed.
- Hotel: Holiday Inn. Rooms: $118.00 per night.
- Meals: Friday night: pizza buffet, hotel staff will serve.
Saturday: Breakfast: attendees are on their own. There’s a restaurant nearby.
Lunch: Bag lunch, sandwiches or wraps.
Dinner: Banquet. Choice of chicken or beef? Colored tags in name tags indicating choice.
MISC: Ed will look into shirts. Giveaways, such as a swag bag were discussed. Cost of vendor tables $60-65.00. Registration forms were discussed briefly.
Auctions: Silent auction (in same area as vendors) to begin at 6:30-7 PM Friday, runs until end of Saturday night. Patty will handle it. Live auction at 7 PM Friday night. Bob Maffit will be the auctioneer. Ed will ask if he wants RRC to cover his room. Chris will handle the door prizes. Crissie will ask other chapters for donations for the silent auction and door prizes.
We will hopefully be able to hand out information in June to the SOP graduates.
It was mentioned that the Deaf & Blind School is interested in having families come to the convention.
NEW BUSINESS:
Ed suggested that RRC pay the 2026 dues for members. Becky motioned to do that, Patty seconded, the motion passed.
- Phoenix talked about Chapter Chatter next Saturday at 11 AM. the topic will be the experiences in filmmaking that Phoenix and Satin have experienced. The meeting will be hybrid.
- Braille class: every other week, first and third Thursday, 2-3 PM.
- Kristi asked about being secretary, since she has stepped down from the Board. After a very brief discussion, Patty motioned to elect Kristi as Secretary, Becky seconded, motion passed.
