The MAB Roe River Chapter meeting on May 9, 2026, focused heavily on budget planning and logistics for the September convention, reviewing expected travel expenses for presenters and finalizing Saturday meal choices including a choice between London broil or chicken Marsala for the banquet. The chapter evaluated local fundraising efforts, noting a slow turnaround from the "Give Great Falls" event and outlining major pending corporate requests alongside upcoming restaurant fundraisers at Mighty Mo and Five Guys. Additionally, the chapter approved the April minutes with a name correction, accepted the treasurer's report, voted to move the June meeting to the first Saturday to focus exclusively on the Summer Orientation Program (SOP), and noted state board updates, including the cancellation of the OPW and Ed's appointment as the new MAB webmaster, before adjourning at 12:11 PM.

APRIL MINUTES: (There was no March meeting) Ed mentioned a correction on the spelling of Kathy Garza’s name. Leah motioned to approve the minutes with the correction, Wava seconded, motion passed.

TREASURER’S REPORT: Kristi read the report

OLD BUSINESS:

Convention

1> Give Great Falls results: the showcase on April 27 was kind of slow, the problem was that no one knew that MAB existed. We received 22 donations, mostly from members. Ed will be on a podcast on May 22nd, and will talk about MAB and SOP.

2> Travel expenses for presenters:

  • Kathy Garza and her friend Bobbi: $1300.00air fare
  • Aaron Nordstrom: No info as yet. Estimate $7-900.00
  • Laurel Henry: She’s driving, $1-150.00 for gas
  • Shannon Payne: BLVS is paying her expenses
  • Angela Tabb: RRC is paying her room and board. $65.00 food,$118.00 per nite for hotel room.

3> Meal choices:

  • Friday night: Pizza Buffet (more discussion later)
  • Saturday & Sunday breakfast: Attendees will be on their own. there is a restaurant near by.
  • Saturday lunch: Sandwiches to go, beef, turkey or ham.
  • Saturday night banquet: Cost: $25-30.00 per person. The group arrived at two choices, London broil or chicken Marsala.
    There will be a choice selection area on the registration form, and a colored ticket to indicate choice in the name tag.
    Ed will ask the hotel regarding food allergies.

NEW BUSINESS:

1> Fundraising:

  • Ed stated that the 1st Interstate Bank is a possible sponsor, we’ll know by May 18th.
  • Ed asked Calumet Refining for $7500.00 to cover the convention. No info yet.
  • It’s possible to get $5500.00 from Benefis.
  • We have a table at Mighty Mo on Aug. 10, to hand out flyers etc, from 5-8 PM. Mighty Mo will contribute $1.00 fir every pint sold.
  • 5 Guys Restaurant will donate 15% of sales between 5-7 PM, Monday through Thursday, date unknown as yet. Need to turn in application.
  • We need to ask small businesses,etc. for auction items for our silent auctions. (Gift baskets, etc.) Ed has a letter to send out, we need to let him know where we send them.

MISC.

  • June meeting: After some discussion about moving the June meeting up to the first Sat. instead of the second, it was decided to move it to the first Sat. Kristi made the motion, Leah seconded, and the motion passed. It was agreed that the meeting would cover the SOP only.
  • Chris gave a report on the last Board meeting: Jane Leach wanted to be secretary for the Helena chapter. It was approved. The district Rep. can be secretary or treasurer of a chapter. Ed is now the MAB webmaster. The OPW was cancelled this year due to lack of interest.
  • Chapter Chatter will be next Sat. (May 16), at 11 AM.

Kristi moved to adjourn the meeting, Wava seconded, motion passed. Meeting adjourned at 12:11 PM.
